"This 11-volume set presents current statistics, information, and beautiful color photographs and maps about the countries of Europe. Written for an audience of high school age and above, the attractive volumes are in an easy-to-peruse format that sets the coverage by country or groups of countries; for example, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Netherlands are grouped into one volume. This part of the world comes with multifaceted complexities when explaining its people, so justice is given by this set having the regions broken down into specific countries. Information about daily life and cultural expression are given in addition to the usual topics of government and economy. Quick facts are also easily found and each book has a "further research" section with a bibliography of both print and electronic resources. There is enough information to whet the curious appetite to go deeper or help the general scholar appreciate other cultures. From the rise and fall of civilizations to tables that compare U.S. statistics to those of these countries to give an understandable comparison, the effort made in organizing the set is evident. This effort combined with a comprehensive index provides understanding of a part of the world that has played a great role in the cultural identity of many Americans. This series will eventually include every region of the world, so it will offer a complete resource critical to giving justice to all of the people who live in it."—American Reference Books Annual, 2010
"The first 12 volumes in this impressive set cover two to eight countries apiece, grouped geographically. Each book details the geographical features and climate of the entire region, along with an overview of the history and movement of people in the area. This overview is followed by in-depth coverage of each country (dependencies and the Russian Federation are included), focusing on particulars such as statistics, culture, government, economics, symbols, and national history. A 13th volume offers comparative statistics as well as thematic set indexes. A plethora of maps, showing everything from geophysical features to location of linguistic groups to region-specific information, along with charts, tables, and chronologies will help to deepen readers’ understanding. Quality captioned color photos and clear fonts contribute to the clean layout. With copious resources offered for further research and a meticulous index, this set is an ideal resource for geography, history, and social-studies assignments."—School Library Journal, June 2010
